Mission Statement

Black Americana™️ is dedicated to celebrating and preserving the richness of Black culture through transformative storytelling and visual excellence.

With the launch of our inaugural coffee table book, The ABC's of Culture, we embark on a groundbreaking mission to create culturally affirming educational resources for deaf children of color. This pioneering work introduces Black and POC deaf children to sign language through the inspiring hands of prominent deaf figures, celebrities, and allies who champion the deaf community.

The ABC's of Culture was born from Angela Stevens' deeply personal journey as the mother of Ashton, her two-year-old son who was born completely deaf and wears cochlear implants. In navigating her son's disability, Angela has immersed herself in learning sign language and embracing the deaf community, transforming her experience into purpose. Through her foundation, Ashton Speaks, she honors the profound joy and meaning Ashton has brought to her life while creating pathways for other families on similar journeys.

This project represents a powerful partnership between Angela Stevens and L10, the visionary photographer and founder of Black Americana™️. Together, we are committed to ensuring that deaf children of color see themselves reflected in educational materials—represented not as afterthoughts, but as the vibrant center of their own cultural narrative.

Through The ABC's of Culture and future projects, Black Americana™️ strives to bridge communities, amplify marginalized voices, and create resources that empower the next generation to embrace their identities with pride and confidence.
